If the hens were fed the same diet side by side, there’s no compelling reason that they would taste different. 

My eggs come from a commercial farm about 20 minutes away so they are very fresh but other than that, not particularly special. 

I’ve had back-yard eggs that were maybe 10% better. I’ve had “organic free range” commercial eggs that were not 10% better. 

Bought “eggland’s best” once and they tasted like metal. Threw away 10 of them. 

On occasion, i have been served eggs that were remarkably better, but i don’t know where they came from. 

With very precisely controlled conditions, it’s possible to hold eggs under refrigeration for up to a year, and THOSE eggs are gonna be sub-par no matter what color the shell is.
