Re: Major Pizza Chains are having a bad day.
I worked at Dominoes for a while about a decade ago. Ate a lot of free pies. The problem is their ingredients are poor across the board. The cheese is completely and utterly artificial. The sauce is basically flavored ketchup. The dough is just okay when worked well, but it’s missing flavor.
When I was hungry, I would make myself a “Brooklyn” (super thin 16″ from an extra small dough). Used only the Provolone since it was an actual cheese, although very weak.
The one thing I can say for them is at least the dough is hand tossed. But most stores only seem to have one or two people who can do a decent job at it. I saw a lot of pies deemed fit to sell which I would have put in the trash. And those of us who had some skill were only paid $0.25 more than the phone kids. Drivers make all of the money. Whenever I could I signed up for driving shifts instead, but they were held rather zealously by a mostly male crew.
They had the most ridiculous internal metrics system. Tracking when orders go out, arrival time,…
